WHEATGRASS IN DIABETES

CAUSES OF DIABETES:

Our body contains many different organs which support each other to function properly. Each organ contains numerous cells which are the basic building blocks of our body. These cells require proteins, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, etc to maintain their proper functioning abilities. Lack of healthy nutrition at cellular level reduces the natural immune system and this is the root cause of all diseases.
The pancreas is the important organ whose cells produce Insulin for controlling the body’s sugar level. Insulin helps digest the sugar contained in our food and control the sugar level for proper functioning of other body organs.
The Insulin producing cells need proper nutrition to maintain their health and working ability. Wrong living and eating habits, irregular life, addictions, lack of physical activity, pollution, stress and use of harmful drugs are the major factors that adversely affect their health. This affects the amount, purity and effectiveness of Insulin and the Pancreas is unable to control the body’s sugar level resulting in the dreaded disease called Diabetes.

TYPES OF DIABETES:

There are two types of Diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2.
In Type 1 Diabetes, the body produces little or no insulin. It is often referred to as    juvenile diabetes as it starts at a younger age and is more severe.
In Type 2 Diabetes, The body produces enough insulin and is unable to enter the body cells to break down sugar into energy.  The body has trouble in properly utilizing fats and proteins.
Type 2 Diabetes is the more common type accounting for nearly 90 % of Diabetics. It is referred to as “maturity – onset” diabetes.

SYMPTOMS:

Both the type of Diabetes shares some similar symptoms. The most common of which include: lack of energy, increased hunger, weight loss, frequent urination, excessive thirst, blurred vision, nausea, abdominal pain and weakness.
While it’s a debatable issue in  medical circles whether diabetes is genetic, or is passed on from generation to generation, scientists are not exactly sure of the precise cause except that the disease may be the result of a malfunction in the body’s endocrine and immune system.
Diabetes increases the chance of heart attack 2 to 4 times and patients with diabetes suffer nerve damage, heart diseases, kidney failure, blindness, amputation, etc.
India’s population is one sixth of the words population and it has the largest number of Diabetics in the world.

CONTROLLING DIABETES:

Diabetes can be controlled and not cured. The basic purpose of any medication is to supplement nutrition deficiencies at the cellular level and improve the natural immune system that will fight against the disease. It is the natural inbuilt mechanism that heals the disease and proper nutrition (medication) is required to strengthen the immune system.
Modern medical practice recommends Insulin injections or tablets for controlling the diabetes. Even after long term use of this medication, this system has been observed to make the patient dependent (addicted) on the medicines instead of repairing the body’s natural ability to control sugar level. Moreover the side effects of these medicines are notorious.
Naturopathy is the oldest and the basic therapeutic system. Naturopathy is a science, which promotes the art of curing and preventing diseases by bringing about suitable changes in food and lifestyle. It upholds the basic principle that our body has the inbuilt ability to heal itself when provided with proper nutrition, exercise and environment.
Naturopathy works to repair the root cause of the disease and its results although slow are observed to be retained long term.  Most important there are no harmful side effects. It states that the accumulation of harmful toxins resulting in disturbed alkaline (pH) level in the body is the basic cause of all health problems.

            WHEATGRASS POWDER IN DIABETES:

The father of modern medical science and the great Greek philosopher Hippocrates, who lived about 2500 years ago, has rightly said ‘Let thy food be thy medicine’. People spend fortunes to get rid of ailments but fail to get relief. The reason behind this pathetic situation is that we never think of resigning ourselves to the almighty Nature. We simply ignore the health- giving herbs and plants created by Nature. Wheatgrass is one such boon bestowed by Nature on man to make him healthy.
Wheatgrass is represented in Naturopathy and is hailed as ‘The Panacea on Earth’ by many famous Naturopaths and Dietitians around the world, due to the natural concentration of numerous beneficial nutrients present in it. Wheatgrass in powder form is the most convenient and effective way of making its benefits readily available.

·Wheatgrass is a naturally rich source of Vitamins, Minerals, Amino acids, Enzymes, Chlorophyll and Dietary Fiber.
·Wheatgrass is said to contain more than 90 different nutritious substances and 19 Amino acids including 9 EAA (essential amino acids).
·  Wheatgrass powder has powerful detoxification and blood purification properties.
·The molecular structure of Chlorophyll contained in Wheatgrass bears a close resemblance to the substance called Hemin contained in human blood. Dieticians therefore call Wheatgrass as ‘green blood’.
·The pH (hydrogen molecules) value of human blood and Wheatgrass both is about 7 (alkaline) & is therefore quickly absorbed in the blood and is highly beneficial.
·100 g Wheatgrass Powder, obtained from 1 kg of fresh Wheatgrass, can supply nourishment equal to that obtained from 23 kg of selected vegetables.
·Wheatgrass Powder is high in dietary fiber and thus helps maintain blood sugar level, cholesterol level, prevents constipation and cancer.

            DIETARY FIBRE:

Although fiber is not a source of energy, its role in disease prevention is outstanding.                               Foods from animal source (milk, eggs, meat, fish, etc.) do not contain significant amount of     fiber. There are two types of fiber:

1) Soluble fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels by delaying the absorption of carbohydrates and is particularly beneficial for diabetics. By increasing the excretion of cholesterol, it helps reduce blood cholesterol level, thus benefiting heart patients. It also reduces the formation of gall bladder stones.

2) Insoluble fiber provides bulk to the food and facilitates its movement in the intestine. It thus helps prevent constipation and reduces the possibility of toxins formation due to reduction in intestinal transit time.

The reduction in quantity of fibrous foods from the modern mans diet is the major cause of many ailments. Supplementing its intake through Wheatgrass powder has shown good improvement in resolving digestion system problems (Diabetes) in particular.
Fiber is strained out, along with many more beneficial substances, while extracting juice from fresh raw Wheatgrass. The abundance of natural fiber in Wheatgrass powder has proven it to be more beneficial than fresh wheatgrass in combating Diabetes.

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE

·               Add One tsp of Wheatgrass powder to a glass of water and stir well to get a uniform dark green mixture.
·              For best results, minimum one Tsp. (3 g) Wheatgrass Powder should be taken daily in a glass of warm water on an empty stomach in early morning for at least one month.
·              Start the Wheatgrass powder in small quantity (half tsp.) and increase as per body acceptance...
·              For better absorption, do not have any food for half an hour before and after taking Wheatgrass powder.
·              Do not add sugar, milk or mix it with citric juices such as Mosambi, Lime, Pineapple, etc.  Sugar contains chemicals. Milk is heavy for digestion. The pH balance of Wheatgrass powder is alkaline and it is highly beneficial to maintain good health. The alkaline level may turn acidic if citric juices are added to it.

Along with Wheatgrass powder, following lifestyle habits are also necessary:

·           Follow a healthy working, diet and sleep routine. Include lots of raw vegetables, fruits and salads in your daily diet. Maintain pleasant atmosphere and state of mind.
·           Drink lots of clean water. Adults should drink about 2 to 3 liters (8 to 12 glasses) of water daily. It is more beneficial to drink water at least half an hour after (or before) having food.  Also, drinking water while having food should be avoided.
·           Increase intake of fresh and pollution free air. Brisk walking for about half an hour in the early morning helps ‘store’ more oxygen needed to remain fresh full day.
·           Practicing Yoga, meditation and Pranayam for at least 10 to 15 minutes daily is highly recommended as it also reduces stress.
